Martin Wühler
Martin Wühler (b. 1983, Erfurt, Germany) studied East Asian and European Art History as well as Sinology at the Ruprecht-Karls University Heidelberg before he studied Media Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig with Clemens von Wedemeyer and Christin Lahr.
Martin Wühlers ultra-contemporary artistic practice reflects upon the paradox of artificiality as critique within conceptions of art, which is based upon 19th century philosophy.
He often transforms objects of different contexts and cultures physically or digitally while moving about freely between installation, sculpture, photography and new media. The doubt about reality and the challenges and possibilities of the digital and virtual are at the heart of Wühler’s artistic work.
He often combines organic and synthetic materials and applications, creates novel objects and sculptures with the help of 3D printers: ideal and reality are collaged together and result in something entirely new. Wühler’s artistic process takes certain strategies as a model, which we will encounter and deal with in our daily lives as media consumers in the coming decades.
His first solo shows took place at Galerie Pretty Portal, Düsseldorf, Galerie EIGEN + ART, Leipzig, MEME Athens and 45cbm – Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden.
Group shows included the Grassi Museum Leipzig as well as the Gallery for Contemporary Art GfZK Leipzig, the W139 Amsterdam and the HKW – Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin.
